Moray Local Action Group funding helped meet the annual running costs of the Speyside Community Carshare Scheme.
The Speyside Community Car Share Scheme aims to promote the welfare and relieve the needs of those in the community who are socially isolated by reasons of age, infirmity or disability through the provision of a volunteer-based transport service.
In particular, the scheme provides a volunteer-based transport service which takes its members to medically-related appointments, and also on social outings to the shops, hairdressers and social clubs.
The scheme had aimed for an increase in membership numbers of 4% (i.e. 16 new members) and recruiting 2 new volunteers over the course of the year. In fact, it saw an increase in membership of 11.5% (48 new members) and completed 3,024 journeys totalling 48,688 miles (increases of 29.6% and 15% on the previous year).
This resulted in a huge increase in members attending social clubs and events, helping to reduce feelings of social exclusion and isolation and allows supported independent living - all of which are an important part of its members mental health and wellbeing.
